Mart Soeson, 48, is a lawyer from Estonia who claims to have fallen in love with 103-year-old Australian woman Elfriede Riit.
According to the man, his love for his late grandfather’s widow has nothing to do with the fact that he requires a visa to stay in Australia. He also explained that the couple lived together since 2013 and until 2022 when his partner moved into a nursing home due to her ailing condition.
“What started out as a wholesome bond I had with my late grandfather’s widow slowly but surely turned into a very meaningful and loving relationship,” Soeson says.
Soeson is now seeking permanent residence in Australia in hopes of being close to his partner – his visa application, however, was recently rejected.
“Yes, I know we have the age gap. And I know it’s an issue for some people. But generally, age gap is an issue in case of older woman and younger man. It’s never an issue in case of older man and young woman but I’m not able to change that attitude,” the lawyer added.
Gushing over his relationship with the 103-year-old, Mart admitted love didn’t happen overnight. Instead, he grew fond of Elfriede over time after she offered him her companionship, guidance, and support.
After years of bonding and several trips abroad, Soeson finally admitted to himself that he was in love with Elfriede and the two officially started dating.
“Having spent the last five holiday season together the relationship between Elfriede and I had become extremely close. Elfriede was completely in love with me and I was feeling the same way about her,” he added.
“Elfriede and I also became physically closer, and she constantly hugged me and paid attention to me in ways that she hadn’t before.”
Adamant on thinking that love known no age, Elfriede previously also shared her love for the man 55 years her junior as she insisted she had fallen in love with Mart.
“I realized that my feelings for Mart have developed far past that of a friendship. I had fallen in love with him and this was something I needed to express,” she said.
“I was alone, I wanted a partner by my side, someone who cared about me and would be there to relish with me in the good times and support me through the difficult times and I know that I had found that in Mart.”
Appealing his visa application rejection in an attempt to spend all of his time with Elfriede, Mart said the couple is looking forward to a continued, long-term relationship.
“In the long-term future we hope to continue sharing our relationship with each other and giving our undivided devotion and love to each other,” he said.
“We are committed, in love, and believe each other to truly be life partners as well as romantic partners.”
