During a recent appearance on the She MD podcast, Kim Kardashian revealed one of her two sons has been diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disorder.
While she didn’t state if it was eight-year-old Saint or five-year-old Psalm who she shares with ex-husband Kanye West, she did explain the condition was currently “under control.”
The reality star, 43, was on the podcast discussing her own journey with psoriasis when she revealed her son’s diagnosis.
“It came from my mom, went to me … and I passed it on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo very mildly,” she told listeners.
“I didn’t know anything about it, but having to learn about it and figuring out where it came from and that it’s hereditary and just learning more and being able to share that [has been a blessing].”
She also explained her “kids have a little bit of eczema.”
Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes patches of skin to lose its color or pigment over time. The condition occurs when cells that produce melanin, melanocytes, are attacked or destroyed by the body’s immune system.
Researchers also believe vitiligo can be hereditary or caused by environmental triggers.
